We are thrilled and proud to announce that the first ever Wales Youth Parliament member for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney is Pen y Dre High School's very own Tommy Church.

Tommy is an exceptional pupil who will make a real difference to the lives of young people in this area by giving them a voice at national level. He will be the youth equivalent of the local Assembly Member, Dawn Bowden AM.

Tommy is passionate about the environment and making sure that young people have emotional and social supoort in schools.

Another first for Pen y Dre High School, but more importantly, a first for Tommy and for the young people of Merthyr and Rhymney.

Recently Tommy particpated in the first ever Youth Parliament Conference in Swansea focusing on life skills, and has undertaken work experience in the Houses of Parliament with the local Member of Parliament Mr Gerald Jones.
