Mission Statement
“We are the world, we
are the children
We are the ones to make a brighter day …..
The words from the well known
song form the essence of our mission for the proposed links
between Pen y Dre and its’ feeder schools with schools in other
parts of the world. Our main aim is to enrich the cultural
experiences of pupils by establishing links with schools in
faraway places, exchanging information through videos/dvds,
music CDs, e-mails, letters and organised visits and to sustain
and develop those links to provide mutual learning
opportunities.
Pupils and teaching staff will exchange information about their
schools, their tastes in music and art as well as their home and
social lives. They will learn about the differences between us
and, at the same time, they will learn the essential lesson
(especially in these days of terrorism, antipathy and suspicion
of other nations) that basically, although we may look
different, speak a different language and follow different
religions, as far as physical and emotional needs are concerned
we are all the same. Peace and harmony between nations must
start somewhere, therefore, if we can show some members of the
future generation that the way forward is to befriend other
nations, learn about each other’s cultures and try to understand
each other better then maybe we will have contributed in a very
small way to friendship and cooperation between nations.
Aims
- To give students and staff
the opportunity to develop internationalism in the primary
and secondary sectors in Merthyr.
- To give more students and
staff the opportunity to experience these cultures
first-hand.
- To develop a sustainable
cultural link with South Africa which will provide a mutual
learning opportunity.
