Merthyr 6th Form Prospectus
Pen Y Dre is an 11-18 mixed-sex comprehensive school situated in the town of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales in the UK. The school serves a catchment area consisting mainly of a large council housing estate and a number of traditional Welsh valley communities on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. The school is committed to raising the achievement of all its pupils. It has set targets and adopted strategies to achieve this end. The vast majority of the pupils come from a Christian religious background.
Our vision is of a school where every child realises his or her full potential. That is our ultimate goal; our final destination. To reach that goal, we need to raise the achievement of all pupils. We need to ensure that all pupils are in school on each and every possible day. We need to bolster their esteem, for we want them to have high aspirations. We want them to work hard and to be curious about the world in which they live. We want them to have respect for themselves; respect for who they are and where they come from.
